While we are interested on some species and wonder their relationship to tree - whether they are damaging or not, many of us are also afraid of some aggressive species which bite. Member-only activity: Citizen Science Program by CUHK Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium

Tai Po District Flora Survey Interactive Information Network:

Promoting public conservation knowledge and contribution to the community based on education

We are invited by Chinese University of Hong Kong Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium to be a supporting organization for the ECF funded project.  We are looking for Trainers and Helpers to join an education programme to teach primary school and secondary school students to learn how to identify plant species and understand more about the importance of biodiversity. This is a great project to allow us sharing our knowledge on plant identification to contribute our community.
 
Project details:

  • Target Student: 800 numbers of student from P4 to S4 students in Schools of Tai Po
  • Training and teaching materials will be provided by CUHK Herbarium
  • Hourly paid including training and teaching time (Trainer: HKD$200-$250 per hour; Helper: HKD$50-$55 per hour)
  • Training session will be provided on Jan 2017.
  • For the first phase of the programme we need about 10 Trainer and 30 Helpers.  Helpers and Trainer will be recruited by CUHK from other organizations as well.  Final total numbers of Trainer and Helpers will depend on successful applicants from other organizations and the service hours of each Trainer.
  • Minimum commitment of service time by each person: 2.5 hours
  • Schedule of work: (teaching time will be on weekday (Mon-Fri)

Course Content
The course content includes Levels of Assessment, Target Assessment, Site Assessment, Tree Biology and Mechanics, Tree Inspection and Assessment, Data Analysis and Risk Categorization, Mitigation, and Reporting.
Qualification Period
The TRAQ qualification is valid for five (5) years from the date it is earned. A credential holder is required to take the course and pass the exam every five years in order to renew the credential. No CEUs are needed to maintain this qualification. ISA credential holders will be offered 14.5 CEUs for attending the course.
TRACE credential transfer into the new ISA program
If you held the TRACE credential, you have been transferred into the ISA TRAQ program and your current expiration date has been carried over. Transferees have been provided with program information and a TRAQ certificate.

Qualified Chainsaw and Pruning (Ground-based) Technician (QCPT) 
International Society of Arboriculture, Hong Kong Chapter


ISA Hong Kong Chapter (ISAHK) developed a Qualified Chainsaw and Pruning (Ground) Technician (QCPT) Program requirements, policy, processes, procedures and assessments in conformance with the Government qualification requirements, and the assessment process of which pitched at the requirements listed in the HKQF’s Level 2. The Tree Management Office (TMO) of Development Bureau has formally confirmed on 30 March 2015 that workers who have successfully passed the ISA Hong Kong Chapter’s QCPT assessment would be able to comply with the new requirement in pruning works as detailed in their letter dated 17 December 2014.

QCPT is qualification based on skill-oriented assessment in term of vocational and professional needs. Details of QCPT including the assessment scheme can be found in the following documents:

If the retaking is made within 1 year after the first take, it is free of charge. If it is made after the first year but within the second year after the first take, separate charge is required every time – please refer to ISA Headquarters’ notice for details.
